Beam welding line upgrade

Bito, a storage and order picking systems company, wanted to upgrade its current production line for welding rack beams. MechDes (re)designed the complete welding station for this and provided it with advanced technology, such as servo drives and robots for handling the products. We also renewed the welding equipment.

At Bito there was a need for an upgrade for the current production line. The welding station in particular was no longer sufficient, so we made a new design for this. We replaced almost all pneumatic product handling manipulators with servo-driven handling manipulators and robots with product grippers. We also applied chain conveyors to decouple the various processes within the station. We also replaced the welding equipment and provided it with the latest techniques.

The engineering of this project was very complex. This was partly due to the limited space in which the welding station had to function and the wide variety of products that can be produced.

The upgrade makes it possible for Bito to increase the output of the current production line by ±20%.
