Job description

As a Lead Engineer Heavy Machinery & Offshore at MechDes Engineering Harderwijk you are responsible for managing complex projects. This includes the largest crane in the world, blade lifting equipment for wind turbines, winches, lifting equipment and other unique projects such as a climbing crane (see video).

As a Lead Engineer at MechDes Engineering, you coordinate the work on larger projects and advise colleagues in design choices. You are also able to design independently in 3D. This is mainly done in SolidWorks and Inventor. For product data management (PDM) we use SmartTeam or Solidworks Enterprise PDM. In addition to designing, you are able to make the associated calculations and choose the right materials. The calculations are often performed in Ansys Workbench and by means of manual calculations. As a Lead Engineer you are a sparring partner for your project team and also for the customer. As a Lead Engineer you have regular contact with the customer about changes and possibilities within the project. You always monitor the budget and project planning. As a Lead Engineer at MechDes Engineering Harderwijk you are able to provide leadership and direction to the project team as a cooperating foreman. You attend design reviews every week. During these reviews you sit with the other Lead Engineers and knowledge is shared about the current projects. This gives you the opportunity to share your opinion or thoughts about the other projects within MechDes Engineering.

What we think is important for this vacancy

  • A completed mechanical engineering (wtb) study at HBO or WO level;
  • At least 5 years of experience as an Engineer;
  • Experience in managing project teams (Engineers)
  • Experience with FEM / FEA / EEM – software (preferably Ansys);
  • Experience with 3D CAD tools (preferably Solidworks, Solid Edge or Autodesk Inventor);
  • Understanding strength and stiffness issues;
  • Be familiar with, among others, the following terms; fatigue, non-linear buckling (non-linear), plastic calculations with bilinear material properties, visco-elastic material behavior and modal analysis;
  • Able to communicate in Dutch, English and German.
